Behind the Scenes with David
Most people see the lights come up, hear the music start, and enjoy the show.
What they don’t always see is the small mixing desk at the side of the hall — and the quiet concentration behind it.
For David, working behind the scenes with Treading the Bored is just as rewarding as being on stage. While the actors rehearse lines and perfect their timing, he’s balancing sound levels, cueing music, adjusting lighting and making sure everything runs smoothly.
“There’s something special about being part of it all,” he says. “You’re not in the spotlight, but you’re helping create the atmosphere. When it all comes together — lights, sound, laughter from the audience — that’s the magic.”
David enjoys the technical challenge as much as the camaraderie. Every rehearsal brings something different: a missed cue, a spontaneous bit of comedy, or that satisfying moment when a tricky scene finally clicks into place.
Behind the scenes, it’s teamwork at its best. Actors rely on timing. The audience relies on clarity. And the whole production relies on someone calmly pressing the right button at the right time.
For David, that’s where he’s happiest — headset on, coffee nearby, watching the stage come alive.
“Treading the Bored isn’t just about putting on a show,” he says. “It’s about being part of something local, something creative, something that brings people together. And I’m proud to play my part — even if it’s from the mixing desk.”
